THE 2019 ANNUAL MEETING THEME: “LOGGING: THE NEXT GENERATION”
We have a great line-up of speakers and panelists to address our theme ” Logging: The Next Generation.” As developed by the Annual Meeting Committee and the ACL Board of Directors, the goal is to inspire the young folks courageous enough to try logging in California, and to re-inspire older loggers that have watched their California industry languish over the past 25 years. Things are happening in California and the national level that will require a new generation of loggers to handle a new type and level of work. t will take agencies, mills, and loggers all rowing the boat together if we are going to seize this new day.

WEDNESDAY KEYNOTE ADDRESS: ASSEMBLYMAN BRIAN DAHLE(R-REDDING) ON “NEW CALIFORNIA LEADERSHIP — WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?”
Assemblyman Brian Dahle has been representing the timber country of north and northeastern California for many years, from his hometown of Bieber and his central district city of Redding. Mr. Dahle is a former Assembly Republican Leader and has been famous for “reaching across the aisle” to the Democrats who are in the legislative majority. Mr. Dahle will be offering his insights on the new California leadership taking office in 2019– from new Governor Gavin Newsom to the State Legislature and California’s delegation in Congress. Expect some fascinating insights from a California government leader with deep roots in timber country.
THURSDAY KEYNOTE ADDRESS: JIM PETERSON, CO-FOUNDER AND PUBLISHER, EVERGREEN MAGAZINE ON “THESE ARE THE DAYS”
Jim Peterson has been a working journalist for 57 years. In 1986, Jim started the Evergreen Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of forestry and forest policy. His thoughtful and entertaining presentations have earned him the respect of audiences coast to coast. In his speeches, he draws on a wealth of anecdotal knowledge gained from his interviews with hundreds of loggers, foresters, scientists, conservationists, lumbermen and politicians.
‘ACTING” CALFIRE DIRECTOR THOM PORTER : “CALFIRE PERSPECTIVE: LOOKING AHEAD WITH CALFIRE”:
With the retirement of Governor Jerry Brown, longtime CALFIRE Director Ken Pimlott has retired. Southern Division Chief Thom Porter is now the “Acting” CALFIRE Director and the “man at the top” as Governor Newsom takes office. Chief Porter has accepted ACL’s invitation to speak and this will be a very important speech to give our ACL members and attendees a sense of what lies ahead in 2019 and how CALFIRE will interact with our industry on wildfire, tree mortality, workforce issues, and other matters.

ON WEDNESDAY MORNING, JANUARY 16, at 8:00 AM, WE WILL HAVE OUR ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING AND A NEW PANEL OF THE ACL BOARD WITH A “2018 YEAR IN REVIEW” FOR PRO LOGGER CREDIT.
Come at 8:00 am and watch your ACL Board members, staff and other officials speak to you about what ACL has been doing in the past year and what lies ahead for 2019. Many important topics will be covered and you, as a member, will be invited to ask questions and make comments.

THE BANQUET AND AUCTION ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT, JANUARY 16, WITH “The Passing of the Gavel” as 2017-2018 President Hardie Tatum passes the gavel to the 2019-2020 President of ACL.
The 2019 Live Auction, handled again by the Ritchie Brothers team. A silent auction will also be held, and “Log-a-Load” items will be up for auction as well. The Quad Fundraiser will also be handled that night.
“Registrations can be sent up to the weekend before the Annual Meeting, and made with an “on site fee” AT the Annual Meeting” Hotel rooms at the Atlantis are still available – room block rooms available until Monday January 7, or sold out…but Atlantis rooms should still be available at regular prices after that time.
