While the Associated California Loggers 2025 Annual Meeting “looms out there” in January 2025, between now and then we have the very important 2024 American Loggers Council (ALC) Annual Meeting, to take place Tuesday, October 1 through Friday, October 4.

Because Californian (and Past Associated California Loggers Council President) Mike Albrecht of Special Projects, CA LLC, is the 2024-2025 ALC President, “representatives of all the logging states in the American Loggers Council” will be coming to California to attend the ALC Annual Meeting. (There are currently 42 logging association members of ALC,and growing.) On the final night of this Annual Meeting, Mike will “pass the gavel” to the next President, likely from the state of Louisiana.

This is the first time that ALC has had a President from California in 9 years – the last one was Myles Anderson of Anderson Logging in Fort Bragg, and the last ALC Annual Meeting in California was in September, 2015. .

The 2024 ALC Annual Meeting of the American Loggers Council will be held at the “brand new” Chicken Ranch Casino Resort, which had its Grand Opening on July 15, 2024. This casino/resort/hotel is in Sonora, near the home of Mike and Vicki Albrecht in Jamestown. Both towns are in Tuolumne County, about two hours southeast of Sacramento.

Some events will be held at the Chicken Ranch hotel, but other important ones will be held “off-site.” Buses have been hired to transport attendees from the Chicken Ranch Casino Resort “a few miles” to the Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora…where various of the “big meetings” and banquets will be held.

Unlike as with the Associated California Loggers Annual Meeting, which only has ONE banquet…the American Loggers Council Annual Meeting has TWO banquets: (1) The Western BBQ Banquet and Log-a-Load for Kids Auction on Thursday night October 3; and (2) the President’s Farewell Banquet on Friday night October 4. These will both be held at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.

There will be a “Facilities Tour and Lunch” on Wednesday October 2, with buses departing from the Chicken Ranch hotel to take a tour of various nearby regional facilities from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Also on Wednesday October 2, there will be a “Ladies Tour” of Yosemite.

REGISTRATION BOOKLET:

At the American Loggers Council website home page on the “2024 Annual Meeting REGISTER NOW Page Link,” can be found a downloadable version of the Registration Booklet (Registration Package).

In the booklet:

There is a registration form.

There is ALSO information on how to book hotel rooms at the Chicken Ranch Casino and at “overflow hotels” if the Chicken Ranch sells out(so try to book your Chicken Ranch hotel room EARLY.)

AND: There is (for those who wish to donate) a Log-a-Load for Kids Live Auction donation form. PLEASE NOTE: ACL President Russ Hawkins has volunteered to lend his talents to helping the American Loggers Council run this auction. ACL Secretary-Treasurer and Log-a-Load for Kids California Chair Lisa Medici will supervise a “national multi-state crew” of Log-a-Load for Kids volunteers. AND: ALL proceeds of the 2024 American Loggers Council Live Auction in California will be donated to California Log-a-Load for Kids.

REGISTRATION ONLINE VIA THE AMERICAN LOGGERS COUNCIL WEBSITE:

If you want to register without mailing in these forms, you can do so by clicking on the American Loggers Council website at www.amloggers.com and following the prompts to register for the 2024 Annual Meeting..
Everyone is invited to the 2024 American Loggers Council Annual Meeting in Sonora, California, October 1-4.

Please call the ACL office at 916-441-7940 for information.

The Sierra Nevada Task Force invites you to participate in a survey to understand stakeholder perspectives on improving forest health and community resilience to wildfire in the Sierra-Cascade-Inyo region. This is open to “managers, property owners, and/or anyone who work in the Sierra Nevada

. (Including loggers — Editor.)

. • Participation in this survey is voluntary and anonymous. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and will remain open until Friday, August 5, 2022. • To take the survey, please click this link or follow the QR code: https://ucdavis.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0P73WsI6ERZMiKa •

The results of the Survey will be publicly available and presented at the Sierra Nevada Task Force meeting in September. • Survey results will be shared in the Sierra Nevada Regional Profile, a publicly available resource that will summarize the socio-ecological context of the region’s resilience to wildfire.

Though we know this is a very busy time of the year for all, Associated California Loggers suggests that if you have the time, you, or someone in your company or family, might want to fill this out. We have already filled out this survey at the ACL office and “the more opinions” in the survey from the logging sector of the timber industry, the better. The survey will be used to help continue the effort to determine how best to “treat acreage” in the forest and to prevent wildfire. Grant funding may follow these suggestions.

Thank you for your consideration.

In early July, ACL sent out its annual dues billing for 2022-2023. You should be receiving your dues billing materials by mail very soon, or have received them already. Your membership renewal will last for the entire fiscal year 2022-2023, from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.

We know that as California and the United States emerge from under the shadow of COVID-19 and its restrictions, this remains one of the most challenging economic periods in the modern history of logging, but your comparatively small investment in Associated California Loggers gives you your strongest line of defense against even more costly proposals from state and federal government. With various governmental fees and regulations slowed down, reduced, or stopped entirely, ACL has assisted its members in saving them money well in excess of most annual dues payments.

Even as ACL fights AGAINST fees and regulations, ACL fights FOR the advancement of loggers, log haulers, and log road builders, seeking to obtain for you your fair share of state and federal monies and access to programs that ensure our sector of the industry is “the solution” to the issues of forest health, forest management, and wildfire prevention.

Each year, your renewal not only helps ACL fight for your rights but helps you in getting access to affordable and dependably available insurance; providing you with continuing education, certification, and placement on the “ProLogger List” sent to timber industry employers; offering you safety services and logging-related news; and giving you a supportive network of staff, consultants, friends and families committed together to the time-honored tradition of logging in California.

We would appreciate receiving your membership renewal as soon as you can. This will help avoid the costs of printing and postage for second notice mailings. This will also guarantee you continued access to ACL services. We believe that ACL can help you now more than ever, and we value your support.

PS. If you know a logger, log trucker. log road builder, or vendor who would be interested in joining Associated California Loggers, please direct them to the ACL website or the ACL office at 916-441-7940 for an application.

The Rural Fire Capacity (RFC) Program is a Federally-funded grant program that allows California to provide local and rural fire departments with minor firefighting, training, communications and safety equipment for their volunteer firefighters. The RFC Program is not intended for major equipment (fire engines, vehicles, etc) or Capital repairs. The RFC Program has a 50/50 match requirement which means that the applying department must be able to meet the intended grant award, dollar for dollar. Awards for departments are set at a minimum of $500 with a maximum of $20,000. Amounts may be adjusted based on the grant funding available.
