The link above will take you to a “Frequently Asked Questions” page for information about the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program — “PUA.”
The “PUA” program is part of the “CARES Act” passed recently by the US Congress and signed by President Trump.
The “PUA” program provides federally funded benefits distinct from the unemployment insurance program for certain individuals who are out of work or partially unemployed due to the COVID-19 crisis, including the self-employed, individuals who lack sufficient work history, independent contractors, and individuals who have exhausted their unemployment benefits.
Today, Tuesday April 28 at 10:00 am, the California Employment Development Department(EDD), will begin to accept applications for PUA funds via the internet, at a page called “UI Online.”
