DISCUSSION:
John Quidachay is a retired US Forest Service official who has been working as Timber Consultant with Associated California Loggers for over ten years. . John has coordinated with the ACL Board of Directors and staff, mainly on federal policy.
John prepared this white paper with Ward Miller so as to give Associated California Loggers and others an “important tool” during this time when timber policy both in Washington DC and in Sacramento are at a peak of public interest, discussion, and proposals (both legislation and “Executive Orders”).
and tarriffs, of course, are in the news.
American Loggers Council President Mike Albrecht(a Past President of ACL) reviewed this White Paper and wrote:
“John, you and Ward Miller have produced a very comprehensive overview of the challenges that exist between the goal vs. the achievement of more timber production and better forest management..you’ve accurately highlighted the obstacles standing in the way, followed by the consequences of letting the obstacles stand….I agree with your description of “tariff posturing” and the uncertainty that this creates for investors, but I also think this may be a necessary chapter in the book titled “A Long-Term Solution to Fair Trade.”
Another Past President of Associated California Loggers , Robert D’Agostini reviewed this White Paper and writes:
“This is well written and probably the best document from our organization to date. We should search for folks who would print this widely.”
Following on the lead of Past President D’Agostini, Associated California Loggers urges you to read this white paper, keep it on file — and forward it to “folks who would print this widely.”
Thank you
