RETIREMENT OF US FOREST SERVICE CHIEF RANDY MOORE:
Chief Moore, the Chief of the US Forest Service over all Regions, states and related territories in the United States, announced on February 26, 2025, that he will retire, effective Monday March 3, 2025 after 45 years with the Forest Service.
Chief Moore’s last major appearance before a trade association was as the Wednesday Keynote Speaker at the 2025 Annual Meeting of Associated California Loggers in January. Some days after making that appearance in Reno, Chief Moore accompanied and appeared next to President Trump at the latter’s first major trip to Los Angeles to observe the aftermath of the disastrous Los Angeles County fires.
Associated California Loggers thanks Chief Moore for his work with our association over the years, and wishes him well in his retirement and next endeavors.

Tom Schultz Background
Schultz previously served as vice president of resources and government affairs at Idaho Forest Group, where he led timber procurement operations and managed relationships with government officials at all levels. A former U.S. Air Force officer, Schultz also served as director of the Idaho Department of Lands, overseeing the management of several million surface acres of endowment lands and minerals. He held leadership roles in Montana’s Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, managing the Trust Lands and Water Resources Divisions.
Schultz holds a bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree in political science from the University of Wyoming, and a master’s degree in forestry from the University of Montana.
Note in passing: Tom Schultz had been previously selected by President Trump this year as chief of staff for the Agriculture Department’s natural resources and environment office, to help with transitional matters. This position now comes open and will be filled soon.
